Our heart project: The Cross River Gorilla

The Cross River gorilla, classified by the IUCN as one of the world's most endangered gorilla species due to its extreme endangerment, is now found only in a small area on the border between Nigeria and Cameroon. Protecting the Cross River gorilla has been at the heart of our mission from the very beginning. Takamanda National Park in Cameroon, after which we named our company, is not just a geographical location—it symbolizes our commitment to preserving these animals' habitats. In this park, which is one of the last remaining refuges for the Cross River gorillas, we have focused on the long-term conservation of this species.

Origin of our commitments:

Our commitment to the Cross River Gorilla is more than just an initiative—it's the core of our corporate philosophy. With every sale, we donate €1 per product to projects that directly support the conservation of these endangered species, thus making a sustainable contribution to species conservation.

The field research aims to determine whether the Cross River gorilla still exists in the locations where it was previously sighted – in some cases, more than a decade ago. Gorillas are migratory, but unfortunately, they do not migrate to protected areas. Accurate counting and monitoring of the population is crucial. Therefore, it must be ensured that enough gorillas survive to maintain the gene pool. Breeding in captivity is extremely complex and has a low success rate – which is why it is important to accurately record the current population.

1. Field research

Another key element of our conservation program is biomonitoring. Once we know where the gorillas are located, we can monitor and protect them effectively. By collecting genetic samples and closely observing their health, we can identify and prevent potential threats, such as the spread of disease, at an early stage. Biomonitoring also records food availability and other factors that influence the gorillas' survival. This helps us learn how to best support the animals.

2. Biomonitoring

Protecting the Cross River gorilla requires comprehensive cooperation. We are committed to ensuring that all stakeholders—from researchers and rangers to local residents and government agencies—work together and agree to a joint rescue plan. Only through intensive dialogue and coordinated action can sustainable conservation be ensured. A research center that monitors the activities of gorillas, chimpanzees, and forest elephants on a daily basis ensures that all relevant data can be collected and immediate conservation measures can be implemented.

3. All-round protection

Our goal:

We have made it our mission to protect the Cross River Gorilla and other endangered species in this region. Through continuous research, effective biomonitoring, and the establishment of a comprehensive protection network, we are helping to stabilize and secure the numbers of these majestic animals in the long term. Their survival is close to our hearts – and with your support, we can make a decisive contribution.
